Traveling can be a beautiful experience or an awful nightmare. So in order to make it a pleasant one, here are a few simple tips that can be useful.
One of the most important rules about traveling is to make the atmosphere comfortable for others; believe me just by doing that your journey will be great.
At the Airport, Hotel, Taxi...
Smile you are on candid camera, attitude is everything. Remember the people working at a Hotel, Airport and so forth would be more prone to go an extra mile if you treat them well. So be respectful and cordial and you can never be wrong by doing so. Regardless of whether you are traveling first class or coach, or staying at a five star resort or a unrated hotel; the kind of treatment you will get is up to you.
True, we should not judge by appearances, however one cannot help to ignore a well dressed, sharp and put together traveler. Does that mean you have to be uncomfortable? Not at all. Wrinkle free attire, no more skin that necessary: meaning no cleavage for ladies and a button up shirt for the gentleman will be always appreciated. Fragrances can be an issue as well. A soft clean smell is plenty, keep your most irresistible perfume for special occasions. Space in airplanes is limited; common courtesy can never be over rated. The golden rule says "Treat others the same way you would like to be treated". Once you check in at a Hotel let them know if you have any special requests. That will give the staff enough time to make the necessary arrangements. Making last minute demands will put you in the category of unpleasant guests, especially if you are a frequent one.
Tip well; even though there is a tipping chart that states 15% to 20% depending on the quality of service. If someone goes over the top in service; be appreciative. It will work well toward your benefit.
When traveling with children show them how to be polite to others. Let them know that once out of the house, they should behave accordingly. It's not impossible, I am a mother of three and travel all the time. Children are very smart, we just have to be smarter than them.
If you are traveling with a group, be flexible. Your friends will appreciate that. If for any reason you do not agree with an activity don't waste your time explaining or trying to convince them of the contrary. Go on your own, have fun, and most important: do not take it personally.
I believe the best advice here is common sense and great expectations. Now that summer is approaching, plan without stress, prepare accordingly and enjoy your journey.
Bon Voyage!
