Romantic and Sensational Spots in The Big Apple that will Make Sparks Fly!
Posted by: Leslie Tyler Fink on Feb 16, 2010
This year, Cupid’s Day; coincided with The Amazing style shows, AKA Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in NYC. BUT…I had L-O-V-E in mind, and I thought I'd compile a list of mine and my Amore's favorite NYC Romantic Spots that will do the trick.:)
ENJOY...
Top of the Empire State Building
After viewing Meg Ryan in “Sleepless in Seattle”, and Cary Grant waiting for Deborah Kerr in “An Affair to Remember”, I knew the 86th floor Observation Deck at The Empire State Building would be at the top of my list of romantic spots for my darling of 8 years and I. The Empire State Building is more than a quarter of a mile high, making it the third tallest skyscraper in the Americas. The Famously Whimsical 86th level deck was designed for the fascinating panoramic views of NYC. While a much smaller observation deck on the 102nd Floor also creates a memorable scene. Between the two decks, the building has had over 110 million guests to date and is still one of the most popular and romantic views in the world.
Ice skating at Rockefeller Plaza
Twirl your loved one around The Rockefeller sparkling ice. If you go during the holiday season, you can enjoy the famous Rockefeller Center Christmas tree overlooking the rink. Gliding across the ice, cashmere beret, wind in hair, New York skyline in the background….this all makes for a very romantic date night. The Rockefeller Center Ice Skating Rink has been around since 1936, located at 47th and 50th St. between 5th and 7th Avenues (Rockefeller Center). During peak times, skating is a modest $19 bucks which includes endless twirls.:)
Central Park via horse and carriage
Horse-Drawn Carriages, hot cocoa and comfy blankie are the way to experience the beauty and romance of Central Park. The Horse Drawn Carriages for hire can be found all year round lined up along Central Park South between 5th and 6th Avenues. You'll see Wollman Rink, the charming pond, the city's zoo, Sheep Meadow, with relaxing conversations and so much more as you sit by your sweetheart. The cozy carriage ride costs about $34 (per carriage, not per person), and takes about 17 minutes.
Plaza Hotel
This iconic hotel is the ultimate in old-school luxury in NYC. No expense was spared on this spectacular 19-story, French Renaissance "château." Marble lobbies, solid mahogany doors, 1,650 crystal chandeliers, Swiss organdy curtains, privately manufactured Irish linens, and gold-encrusted china are just a few of its features. There are 282 guestrooms, a Champagne Bar for evenings of Caviar and bubbly, a Palm Court for traditional English Afternoon Tea, and the Oak Bar for Happy Hour. 24-Hour butler service means you and your Amor need not leave the hotel for everything you need. Eloise coined the Plaza, “The Greatest Hotel in The World”, and how can one disagree with a superlative like that! Lets not forget the rose petals... Can you take a deep breath and say "aaaaahh":)
Serendipity III
This decades old-Upper East Side ice cream parlor is mostly known for its spiffy and delectable desserts, but it’s a hodgepodge to adore--- part general store, part ice cream parlor, and part casual restaurant, oh and did I forget to mention part decadence.:) It’s a favorite hangout for both locals and celebrities. The white-on-white décor with its marble tables and cane-backed chairs feels as though you’ve just entered a Victorian sugarplum fantasy. I recommend you order the Caviar Burger garnished with cucumber slices, Frozen Hot Chocolate, Sundaes and Banana Splits big enough to share with your darling.
Romantic Dinner & Conversation
I tried, but I couldn’t narrow the list of romantic restaurants down to just one spot. Here are me and My Valentine's Favorite Romantic locals NYC. Daniel-> chef Daniel Boulud's flagship restaurant, contemporary French cuisine, elegant ambiance and gracious service. Start with a glass of bubbly! (60 E. 65th St. Between Park and Madison Aves). Balthazar-> Amazing Parisian Bistro that is as good for Brunch and Lunch as it is for a romantic Dinner. Steak frites is fabulous, and make sure to try the onion goat cheese tart. (SOHO, 80 Spring St. B/W Crosby & Broadway). Union Square Café-> Danny Meyer Restaurant, with amazing American Cuisine. Rated consistently amongst NYC Top Restaurants. Ideal and smart choices for vegans and those with food restrictions. Delicious desserts. Need Reservations. (21 E. 16th St. b/w 5th Ave. and Union Sq. w). Gramercy Tavern-> Perfect entree from start to finish. They're constantly changing their menu, but it's always phenomenally delicious, the service is impeccable, and the atmosphere is charming and cozy. (42 E. 20th St. b/w Broadway and Park Ave.s.)
These are a few ways to rekindle any flame, get to know each other, earn brownie points, or simply fall in love.... Don't forget... Snuggling, Hair massage + Soft Kisses included! :)
OK…So back to the Tents here at Bryant Park for more of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2010. XOXO, LTF
