¡BIENVENIDO ROBERTO DEL RIO!
Tuesday, August 31st the Colton & Farb Gallery captured a crowd of art enthusiasts and the amazing artists themselves in person and in full color for a mix and mingle event. In anticipation of this year’s Consular Ball honoring Mexico slated for October 16, Colton & Farb Gallery and Consular Ball Chair Eve Ruhlman invited the special guests to enjoy a night of Mexican art. Acclaimed artist and Mexico native Roberto del Rio presented “Bacilli Dreams,” an imaginative reflection on his childhood memories in chronological order. With this series of work, the artist's collected reminiscences are translated into painted images with each brush stroke revealing his true feelings towards his past. Other acclaimed artists on display and on the scene that evening include David Graeve and his “Exquisite Pressure-Subjective Time”, and the collection of Paul Horn featuring “Mental Graffiti”.

To all of my chic Celeb fans, no doubt the Emmy's is a TV spectator's candy store. If you watched it on Sunday evening I'm sure you have your favorite picks. I'm not talking about your favorite show either, let's talk hair, make-up, and fashion! Dimitri James, Celebrity Makeup Artist and Founder of Skinn Cosmetics www.skinn.com, shares his comments on beauty trends and gives his tips for getting all of us geared up for the latest haute looks!
Beauty Trend Report:
The Dress
Last year, red was seen on many a screen siren. However, this year celebs tapped into a color palate of soft subtle flesh tones. The cuts of the dresses and gowns were also different. Last year ruffles prevailed and this year the dresses were edgier with a little more rocker chic. The 2010 Emmys also saw a prevalence of soft draped Grecian gowns with embellished Egyptian collars.
Makeup to Match
Of course, NUDE, BLUSH and CREAM frocks call upon a totally different makeup regimen, as compared to bold colors and fiery reds.

Call it mayhem and mischief Halloween is quickly becoming one of the most popular holidays in America, second to Christmas. Just one month away, I am already putting ideas together for my costume of choice.
As trends go, this year don’t be surprised to see quite a few Lady Gaga costumes, and movie inspired looks from Avatar, Iron Man 2, and Alice In Wonderland. And yes, even “The Situation” or “Snookie” wannabes from the Jersey Shore reality show may make an appearance in your neighborhood. With the Twilight series and many other vampire shows, expect to see plenty of modern day blood sucking vampires but with a mysterious and ambiguous attitude. In the fashion arena, the 80’s is making a comeback. Expect to see this year’s Halloween costumes sporting leggings, bright neon colors, and lace gloves from the Material Girl era.

Joe
ID# A10904880
Male
Hi, I'm Joe and I'm an 8 year old orange tabby. I know what you're thinking, "What 8 years old?" Well, please keep in mind that that's not even middle age for us felines. I have plenty of 9 lives left and would love to be your new buddy. I'm house trained and ready to go home with you today. By the way, I do prefer to be the only pet in the household because I fancy all of the attention. I'm also a part of the "Golden Paws" and "Seniors for Seniors" programs. Let me explain, I'm only $45 dollars if you are under 65 years of age and I'm $15 dollars if you are over 65. Do the math, that's a great deal for all of my vaccinations, my microchip, medical evaluation, a bag of Hill's Science Diet and a limited health guarantee from VCA Animal Hospitals. I'm already neutered, but it would also cover that as well.
Be the envy of all of Houston! So what do you say? Come on down and adopt me and only me and let's be forever friends. The Houston SPCA is located at 900 Portway in the Heights area.

The Emmy® Awards may not air until Sunday but that doesn’t mean the celebs have to wait to celebrate! LA Confidential’s Emmy® Party (hosted by the Kardashians who graced the cover this month) was the place to be in Los Angeles this Wednesday. Who doesn’t love mingling with chic Angelenos while watching a beautiful sunset on the top of The London Hotel in West Hollywood? Kim and Kourtney Kardashian swooped in with their entourage and everyone couldn’t keep their eyes off of them. Ladies be honest with yourself, love or hate them, we all know we have contributed to making Keeping Up With the Kardashians E!’s top rated reality show of all time. ;) Kim is absolutely stunning in person and very petite. Makes me thankful I don’t have cameras following me around! (View my event snapshots below).

A hot topic in local Houston news reports Michael Brown, a former carpal tunnel surgeon and owner of the Brown Hand Center, was put behind bars for allegedly physically assaulting his fourth wife, Rachel Brown. The charge filed on August 13th reports Mr. Brown twisted Rachel's arm behind her back and left her harmed. The 53-year-old is now free on $40,000 bail and is to have no contact with Mrs. Brown and surrender his passport, according to court documents.
This is not the first time Michael Brown has been in trouble with the law. He was accused of domestic assault with his second wife Darlina Brown for beating her with a bed post while she was pregnant with their child years ago. The couple’s divorce awarded her $5.4 million for her injuries. She has since remarried and moved to Colorado and has custody of their two first children ages nine and ten.

Houston’s movers and shakers look for some lady luck at Casino Night!
Saturday, August 21, 2010 at the Hobby Center in downtown Houston the Health Museum hosted a benefit, Casino Night, to help raise money for their programming and exhibits.
A true Vegas experience, patrons mingled with the fabulous Marilyn Monroe and showgirls and enjoyed blackjack and other games all in good fun for the charity. A silent auction and prizes were awarded. An open bar and live music by Dino John and his band kept the crowd asking for more. Overall a glitz and glamorous evening amongst the stars!
Thank you to Honorary Chair Jared Lang, Auction Chairs Maidie Ryan & Drew Wilson, and Poker Tournament Host Eva Farha for hosting a fabulous evening!
Which Houston high rollers attended? Here’s a glimpse at the event photos!
