White House announces Battle on Childhood Obesity

Recipe for Success Foundation joins initiative.

This week, First Lady Michelle Obama launched a national initiative to eliminate childhood obesity within this generation.  As part of the effort, President Obama created the first ever Task Force on Childhood Obesity to develop a national action plan to meet the First Lady's Goal.  They are calling this the "Let's Move Campaign".

Houston’s own longtime health crusader Gracie Cavnar will be working in close collaboration with the Presidential Task Force to help take the successful Houston area programs of the Recipe for Success Foundation to a national level.  "Childhood Obesity is a national crisis" Recipe for Success Founder, Grace Cavnar said in a statement.  "The White House has called us all into action and Recipe for Success Foundation is ready to help."

Michelle’s “Let’s Move Campaign” will encourage more physical activity for children, healthier food in schools, and more accurate food labeling.  Michelle explained that some of her initiatives, such as tax breaks for grocery stores to move into poorly served communities, will require congressional action; which is why the National Task Force is so vital to the Campaign.

"The physical and emotional health of an entire generation and the economic health and security of our nation is at stake," said Mrs. Obama.  "This isn't the kind of problem that can be solved overnight, but with everyone working together, it can be solved.  So, let's move."  She continues,  "I would move heaven and earth to give my kids all the chance in the world for them to be at the top of their game in every way, shape and form," Mrs. Obama says. "Let's Move operates under the principle that every family wants the same thing for their kid. So we're going to figure out how to make it easier for them to get it."
