Candy Spies: "Did YOU Hear"?

Candy Spies

Every town needs a Perez Hilton, right?  My name is Matt and I am the "Hot Commodity".  I promise to keep it semi-clean but share some stuff I hear about town.  Are these rumors all they are cracked up to be?  It's MY job to report, I'll leave it up to YOU to investigate the truth!

Keep an eye out for Houston socialite Erica Rose.  This flower's been hitting the gym, pilates, yoga,  or whatever.... pretty hard these days...and for what???  Rumor has it she is taking reality TV by storm.  Look out for some new shows to pop up…she may make a few cameos…or steal the whole show…who knows??  Did you catch her in the recent episode of The Bachelor….“The Bachelor Tells All”  on ABC last Monday?  This tiara wearing celebutane is hilarious!  Looks like Producers and TV viewers can’t seem to get enough her.  I will stay tuned.

SMU Alumni Association Happy Hour

Thursday night Southern Methodist University Alums got together to mix, mingle, and enjoy some wonderful French wine. (Pictured: RSVP writer and SMU Alum Amanda Cochran with Eduardo)

Being a graduate myself, it’s always fun to reconnect with people I went to school with, plus it’s always nice to meet new friends and business connections. About 100 people came out to French Country Wines, a niche distributor located just off of Kirby in the Rice U area.

Owner Tim Smith traded in his bond trader hat to fulfill his passion for importing fine wine. Bottles and cases are sold to both individuals and to restaurants. It’s all from France and the selection is sensational! This place is really known by “word of mouth” so here you go my friends. I recommend you check it out or host your own private tasting. Here are a few party pics:

A crowd of more than two hundred, including city officials, arts organization leaders and business representatives, attended Thursday evening's Arts Reception in the Founder's Room at Hobby Center. The event provided an excellent opportunity for a diverse cross-section of Houston's arts-vested community to meet and mingle.

(In the pic: Jonathon Glus, CEO, Houston Arts Alliance; Fabené Welch, Chair, Houston Arts Alliance Board of Directors; Houston Mayor Annise D. Parker; Houston Controller Ronald C. Green.)

After introductions by Houston Arts Alliance Board Chair Fabené Welch, Mayor Annise Parker spoke. Mayor Parker firmly stated her belief that the arts are good for business, that they bring in visitors, stimulate cultural tourism, and provide an environment to attract business and students to Houston. She also iterated the need to get this message out, that the arts boost the bottom line. Mayor Parker complimented HAA on making the arts funding process clear and transparent, especially in a time when arts funding is under attack. In closing, she challenged the attendees to recommit to civic engagement, because the city is all in this together.

Dating Diva Adventures: "Valentine's Day Top 10 List"

Hallmark holidays appeal to most but as for me, I'm not a huge fan. Similar to t-shirt fans-- aka those that wear logo gear during a play-off game but cannot tell you a thing about a teams season. Understand? I much prefer acts of kindness or tokens of ones affection to be shown when they feel the urge and not because some Marketing or PR firm tells them to. However, Valentine's Day is just around the corner and your emails are demanding.......What do I do for my girlfriend for Valentine's Day? What should I get her? Guys- this is so incredibly simple that I cannot believe I'm even gonna spell-check this article! Keep it simple silly! Women merely want to know that we're cared for, loved, appreciated or that you think we're beautiful and sexy! So here's my "Top 10 List" of ideas...just for you!

Houston, Will You Accept This Rose?

Whether real or make-believe, the drama on this season of the Bachelor is at an all time high and the effects are clearly seen all over Jake Pavelka's face.  Where in the world did they find these girls?!  I guess they didn't make everyone take the psych tests this year because it is very clear that most of these ladies would have failed miserably!

And my favorite crazy-lady was finally sent packing in one of the most awkward departures to date.  Michelle first asks Jake for a kiss, which he painfully agrees to.  Then she proclaims, 'Is that all you've got?!  You've gotta give me more than that!'  He just stares at her, at a loss for words, when she offers that she should just leave.  Jake looks excited for the first time this week and says, yes please!  Then Michelle reacts in shock because she thought he would at least try and fight for her to be there.  No such luck, Michelle.  She is appearing on the Ellen Degeneres Show to tell her side Wednesday, January 20th.  That might actually be worth tuning in to!

Blonde Ambition

Blondes...this one is for you.  This article is 100% attributed to the author  from http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/8464990.stm  I definitely find this interesting (being one myself).  What are your thoughts?  It's an open forum here.

Women with blonde hair have the competitive edge, being more aggressive and determined than redheads and brunettes, say scientists.

Fair-haired women, whether natural or out of a bottle, display a warlike streak when fighting battles to get their own way, findings suggest.

The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences work might explain why many leading women are blonde.

The University of California team studied 156 female students.

Blonde ambition

They found blondes were used to getting more attention and being treated better by others.

Houston, will you accept this rose?: "Bachelor Gossip"

Well, I think ABC finally lived up to their word and had 'the most dramatic rose ceremony, EVER!'. If you saw last week's episode, then you know that I'm referring to when Chris Harrison asked Roslyn to leave the show because she had an 'inappropriate relationship' with a 'staffer'. There are lots of rumors swirling around about this, so I thought I'd see what I could dig up.

I found a deleted scene from last Monday's show where the girls discuss what happened. Take a look!

2010 UNICEF Gala welcomes special guest Ambassador Lucy Liu

Emmy nominated actress Lucy Liu was appointed U.S. Fund for UNICEF Ambassador in 2005 and continues to maintain her title today. This was the first time she'd been invited to the states as Ambassador for UNICEF 2010 and as you can envision we were immensely delighted to have her as a guest in Texas!

The scene was Exotic Asian with a house full of Houston fashionistas supporting a great cause at Thursday nights soiree. The $1000 a plate Asian cuisine, impeccable décor, and lively band made for a fabulous party. This was the atmosphere for this year’s UNICEF gala, hosted at the stunning Tanglewood home of gracious host Becca Cason Thrash.

Houston, Will You Accept This Rose?: The Bachelor recap

By, Shannon Oliver Robinson (That’s right, I’m Mrs. Robinson now!  Check out Hitched in Houston under Bridal to read all about my fairy-tale ending!)

OMG.  I’m sorry, but there is really nothing else I can verbalize after watching the first episode of The Bachelor, On the Wings of Love.  I have never seen more cheese, or pectoral muscles for that matter, than I just witnessed on the season premiere of the show we are all drawn to like rubber-necker’s to a five car pileup.  And that my friends, is exactly what we have here… one HUGE train wreck (that we will all tune into for the next few weeks of our lives, even when we all know better!).

Why do we do it?  Well, one can guess that we are all hopeless romantics always rooting for an engagement that ends in Happily Ever After.  But perhaps we are just scared of missing the next ridiculous thing that comes from dropping one buff pilot into a mansion with 25 single ladies.  Whatever the reason, this season is sure to entertain, disappoint, make us groan in disbelief, and of course, provide plenty of the world’s most dramatic rose ceremonies EVER!

There was so much to take in/make fun of that I decided to watch the episode again on abc.com… this shows how much I truly care for you all that I would put myself through this again!  ABC is trying to spice things up and they have added a written commentary from Jillian and Ed throughout the episode.  This should be good… let’s dive in!
