Last week was the official "green" week in Houston (as well as the rest of the world) as Earth Day and Arbor Day were celebrated Wed. 22nd and Fri. 24th. The entire week was devoted to the betterment of our planet and its resources, but we should be having Earth Day EVERY DAY!
We want to know what YOU did to celebrate Earth Day or Arbor Day this year. Did you plant a tree, carpool or make a conscious decision to recycle? Did you buy an organic tee, use a cloth bag at the grocery store or buy a hybrid? Let us know through your comments.

I first experienced Tai Chi 30 years ago. While walking through my neighborhood in a small town in northwestern New Jersey, I saw a man in a martial arts uniform doing a graceful dance in his backyard. I sat down a safe distance away and watched with fascination. I knew I was witnessing something special and sacred. I respected his level of concentration and did not dare make a move. I never spoke of what I saw as if speaking of it would have destroyed the magic.

Sunday, March 1, 2009: Supporters of The Diana Foundation gathered at the legendary Michael Kemper Salon to celebrate the upcoming gala. Themed from the movie, Roman Holiday, the Big Brothers Big Sisters gala at the Corinthian chaired by Laura Spalding and Jana Fant put a spirited slice of Rome into a stormy night. Take the simple, yet effective decorations by Rebekah Johnson; a fountain, a flat screen TV showing the Roman Holiday movie, Cinzano umbrellas, and small bouquets of flowers on the tables. Then, Jackson Hicks started the meal with a tomato basil soup, and ended it with biscotti and spumoni. I really wanted seconds.

The Clash may have made this song a hit but it was you, stellar Houstonites, who made the Society for the Performing Arts (SPA) gala a hit on Saturday, April 18. SPA held its annual gala at the Wortham Center followed by a who’s who gathering of young professionals at the after party – aptly named the “Clash Bash”.

I have always been adventurous, energetic and athletic. As a little girl I was interested in exotic food and made friends with children from different cultures. I was a gymnast and a good student. I sought out different things to make me feel like a Superhero. When I was 5 years old I would roll up pieces of bread into little balls to have with me for energy on long days of playing outdoors. This was my version of the 'adrenaline' pills taken by one of my role models, the Bionic Woman.

"It's all about the crown. Wear the crown, be the crown, you are the crown" - One of my favorite moments from one of my favorite movies, Miss Congeniality starring Sandra Bullock. Well this year the quote can be "It's all about the green. Wear the green, be the green, you are the green!"
Houston's very own and current Miss Texas, Brooke Daniels, will compete for this year's "green" Miss USA crown! According to my sources, this blonde bombshell native to the 713, has already made waves in the prelim competitions and stands to do very well overall! Fingers crossed.

One of my favorite episodes of the TV show “Friends” is the one where Rachel and Joey exchange their favorite books. Joey gives Rachel “The Shining” and Rachel gives Joey, Louisa May Alcott’s “Little Women”.

I feel like I've grown up WITH Britney. She was a child star, when I was a child. She was not a girl, not yet a woman...when I was not a girl, not yet a woman. She's blonde and southern and likes pink; me too! She likes to dance around her room to 80's music; I think it should be an Olympic sport! She is best friends with Madonna; I am best friends with Madonna. Ok...so, there are a couple of "technical" differences. But still, you see the point. So, when she announced she was coming to Houston, March 30th, 2009...hair or no hair, sane or nutjob...I WAS going!!! AND she ROCKED. If you missed the Britney Circus Concert...shame on you!!!
