The Houston Ballet Ball was an eye catching & surreal celebration Saturday night! The black tie gala indulged the senses with a complete transformation of the Wortham Theater Center in the "Surreal Movement" theme and raised a significant amount of funds... $784K to be exact. The Surreal evening was creative with details of chandelier clocks dangling from the ceiling, bright artful eyes beaming on the high walls and palm size eyeballs set in the center of floral arrangements. Along with great style and fashion in the mix this made for a distinct combination and fabulous evening! Along with the great Jazz band and lively dancing, one of the main highlights of the evening was "What They Wore" and I was the lucky girl that got to play Fashion Police and everyone looked... I reiterate... STUNNING!:) Sorry Audrey, but there was no room for that safe and simple little black dress at this soiree, but the Big Black Dress made a nice showing. Most Sentimental goes to Laura Spalding who wore Alexander McQueen. I couldn’t talk to her without respecting the memory of this great designer and taking a moment to respect his legacy. Wearing one of his designs was a wonderful way in incorporate his presence into the celebration and make it seem as if he was there in spirit enjoying the Ballet with us. How Surreal!
Best Interpretation of the Theme goes to Becca Cason Thrash and Lynn Wyatt. Becca combined aspects of several couture designers to create a look that was both fashion forward and avant-garde. Surreal is supposed to involve “element of surprise, unexpected juxtapositions and non sequiturs”. Becca’s jacket was elaborate and layered, while her skirt was slimming to the floor. Lynn wore a white Carolina Herrera gown with turquoise and black geometric designs and a Philip Treacy feather hairpiece. These gal’s have style.
For the Men, Favorite Accessory was green carnation worn by Vogue European Editor Hamish Bowels. Hamish was in town as a special guest of honoree Becca and John, and is one of the World’s leading authorities on fashion. Also Terry Wayne Jones created a mini image of Dali’s melting clock in place of a pocket square. Very clever.
Ladies in Red: Diane Lokey Farb was dressed in this season’s favorite Valentino Ruffled Red Ball Gown a personal favorite of mine which sits in my closet as well:). This Stunner makes a drop dead gorgeous appearance at just about every event in every city this season, on every A-list socialite in town…and yet, for some cosmic reason…I haven't yet seen 2 in the same room!!! Do we think everyone is coordinating? EVERYONE is looking fabulous…Bravo Diane, Bravo Valentino! Judy Nichols was also stunning in a red strapless number that looked as sexy as it did surreal!
The night... a fierce evening to say the least!
