WHAT
ELSE: Greg Mortenson’s amazing story began after an unsuccessful attempt to climb K2. During the climb, Greg was injured and then aided by poor local villagers in a village he'd entered accidentally. He learned that none of the children who helped him had ever been to school due to many factors including poverty, ethnic conflicts and certain fundamentalist edicts. Mortenson has since dedicated his life to promoting education, especially for girls, in remote regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Greg is also the author of Stones into Schools. He has founded Central Asia Institute to build schools for children in these countries.
