Welcome Back to Beth in the City. We left off with our 713 native designer, Cesar Galindo, tearing it up on the runway with his haute looks for Houstonites (Houstonians + Socialites) and New Yorkers and everyone in between. I woke up semi early (~ 10-ish EST) on Friday, September 11th and headed down for brunch at our hotel, the W. I was looking ever so fabulous…wink!
The gang got ready in a flash, dressed to the nines. Grabbed our car service and it was off to the tents at Bryant Park. Oh, the tents. What a sight to behold! An entire city block covered in white, massive tents. Think $5M wedding reception on steroids. The engineering, the detailing, the planning. Just for me (and you, of course) and Anna Wintour and Nina Garcia and Tim Gunn, etc...

Welcome to the premier of Beth in the City. I am your hostess, Beth Younger, and it is my wish to take you with me while we, together, navigate this great city of ours – Houston. So, just sit back, relax and grab a drink while we dive head first into the Space City’s treasures. Our first stop for this inaugural article takes us to the M2 Ultra Lounge in New York City for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
I had the opportunity to attend Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week last Thursday through Sunday and it is something I have always wanted to do since I was a little girl. Growing up reading Elle and Vogue, I used to curl up in bed and dream of the day I could rub elbows with the fashionable, glamorous crowd that was known only as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The time had arrived. I was ready. Questions in head. Paper and pen in hand. Look out, New York, Beth in the City is coming and she is bringing her cowboy boots with her. You can take the girl out of Houston…

Upon entering Warehouse Live (near Minute Maid Park) on Saturday, August 22nd I could immediately feel my inner rock star bubbling to the surface. I was dressed complete in my new black mini with a rockin’ snakeskin belt and requisite strappy platform heels to pull together my look. Doing my best to channel anyone worthy of channeling (think Gwen + Beyonce + Madonna), I snagged my VIP wristband and was in.

Saturday, August 15th, Las Vegas came to Houstonwith a glittering array of showgirls and impersonators to welcome the 3rd annual Casino Night benefitting the Health Museum, the John P. McGovern Health and Medical Science Museum.
The event was presented by Momentum Audi with the dapper general manager, Jared Lang, on hand to liven up the party. Momentum’s sexy status symbols flanked guests entering the fantasy-filled Four Seasons Hotel where a Sinatra-style welcome waited for the soon-to-be high rollers.

Calling all you downtown working girls (think Melanie Griffith in Working Girl, not Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman). Did you know that any cab ride within downtown Houston costs only $6? Yep, it's true. Why? Glad you asked. As part of an effort to offer an alternative to current daytime mass transit options in Houston, the Mayor's office wants you to commute faster and at a flat rate.

I hear the train a comin'. It's rolling round the bend. On Saturday, June 13th, Hermann Park Conservancy rolled out the green carpet for its Young Friends group - the aptly named Urban Green. Celebrating the restoration of Kinder Station and the Hermann Park Railroad, Urban Green guests were entertained with a progressive train ride through Hermann Park's 440-acre park with three themed stations along the route.

Painting the town red is so passé. How passé is it? It is so passé that if red and white were the last two colors standing on Project Runway, Heidi Klum would say "Red - you're out. Auf Wiedersehen. White, that means you're in." Houston, it's time to paint the town white!
If U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu has anything to do with it, Houston will definitely be seeing a lot of white paint - on the roofs. At the recent climate change symposium in London, Secretary Chu said that by "making roads and [flat] roofs a paler color [it] could have the equivalent effect of taking every car in the world off the road for 11 years." Talk about energy efficiency!

Last week was the official "green" week in Houston (as well as the rest of the world) as Earth Day and Arbor Day were celebrated Wed. 22nd and Fri. 24th. The entire week was devoted to the betterment of our planet and its resources, but we should be having Earth Day EVERY DAY!
We want to know what YOU did to celebrate Earth Day or Arbor Day this year. Did you plant a tree, carpool or make a conscious decision to recycle? Did you buy an organic tee, use a cloth bag at the grocery store or buy a hybrid? Let us know through your comments.

The Clash may have made this song a hit but it was you, stellar Houstonites, who made the Society for the Performing Arts (SPA) gala a hit on Saturday, April 18. SPA held its annual gala at the Wortham Center followed by a who’s who gathering of young professionals at the after party – aptly named the “Clash Bash”.

"It's all about the crown. Wear the crown, be the crown, you are the crown" - One of my favorite moments from one of my favorite movies, Miss Congeniality starring Sandra Bullock. Well this year the quote can be "It's all about the green. Wear the green, be the green, you are the green!"
Houston's very own and current Miss Texas, Brooke Daniels, will compete for this year's "green" Miss USA crown! According to my sources, this blonde bombshell native to the 713, has already made waves in the prelim competitions and stands to do very well overall! Fingers crossed.
