Party Like A Rock Star: For A Cause
Posted by: Energy Efficient Beth on Aug 24, 2009
Upon entering Warehouse Live (near Minute Maid Park) on Saturday, August 22nd I could immediately feel my inner rock star bubbling to the surface. I was dressed complete in my new black mini with a rockin’ snakeskin belt and requisite strappy platform heels to pull together my look. Doing my best to channel anyone worthy of channeling (think Gwen + Beyonce + Madonna), I snagged my VIP wristband and was in.
First stop was to make my manners and say hello to event hosts from Planned Parenthood of Houston and Southeast Texas. They were thrilled with the almost 400 people turnout and like everyone else there, were dressed as rock stars! This music-centric event featured raffle items such as concert tickets to Pink, Nickleback and Depeche Mode.
Taking in the scene from the grand ballroom I noticed quite an array of wannabe rockers and quickly grouped the crowd into two factions: 1) Rocker-chic and 2) Halloween-geek. Sorry to be so harsh, but it is true. Dancing to the awesome cover band from the 512, Skyrocket, some were very creative by channeling Buddy Holly, Lady Gaga, Gene Simmons, Katy Perry, David Bowie and even a spot-on Bret Michaels (sans herpes, allegedly-that is). But, c’mon Village People…you look more like village idiots…save it for Halloween…or don’t …just sayin’. Ouch, I’m mean. I need a drink.
After my critical eye did its dirtiest, I traipsed through the velvet ropes of the VIP and spotted my friend Jared Maidenberg of Riazul Tequila – the main event sponsor. He hooked me up with one of the free concoctions Riazul was mixing. D-lish! Then it was time for a quick rounding of the yummy bites from Morton’s Steakhouse and Max’s Wine Dive: fried chicken, ribs and brownies (2 for me). Smile.
I went back through the velvet ropes into the grand ballroom and couldn’t get enough. The sound in this venue was incredible and hardly a word was audible, aside from the mass sing-along erupting from the mouths of every rock star to each classic 80’s song being performed onstage. Dancing, socializing and people watching were on the agenda for the rest of the night.
The after party in the VIP featured the ultra chill band, Drum, and only the chicest of party goers stayed to live like true rock stars to party into the wee hours. Until next time…enjoy the 713 and please remember to always RSVP yes!
